Is there a way to create an automatic free shipping discount?
We would like to run promotion with a product discount along with free shipping, but only provide coustomers with one code to use.

As for, creating an automatic free shipping discount limited to 1 use, follow these steps:
- From your Shopify admin, go to Discounts.
- Click create discount.
- From the Select discount type menu, click Free shipping.
- Under METHOD, select Discount code.
- In the Discount code section, enter a name for the new discount code.
- In the Customer eligibility section, select who this discount applies to: everyone, specific customer segments, or specific customers.
- Use the search field to choose the individuals or groups that you want to receive the discount.
- In the Usage limits section, check Limit to one per customer to limit the discount to one use per customer.
- Additionally, use the calendar in the Active dates section to set the start date, or end date for the discount.
Note that this discount will not automatically apply to an order. Your customers will need to enter the code during checkout to receive the discount. To automatically offer your customers free shipping based on their order price, you must set a free shipping rate under the Shipping and Delivery page in your Shopify admin.

I found this video super helpful - took me less than a minute to understand what to do… and set up the shipping code. You have to go into settings (click on the gear icon in the lower left corner) → and then go into the shipping “market” → then set a condition (number of items of $ sales). Good luck!

Hi @nicolemelo and @californica you can now do this natively as a Automatic free shipping discount instead of juggling shipping profiles.

It seems like this combination is not allowed any more. Point 5, selecting what products it applies to, is not availible when you use a discount of the type «free shipping». Anyone know how to achieve this today?

You can choose products when Creating amount off discounts or Buy X get Y discounts using automatic discounts. However, there isn’t an option to choose products when it comes to the free shipping using automatic discounts. That being said, you may be able to achieve this by using a third-party app, such as Better Shipping. If you need to get help with a third-party app, then the app developer is always available to assist you. Simply reach out to them using the contact information found at the bottom of their app’s page.

Thanks for replying. Not super happy with paying $30 / month to get this option back into shopify via a plugin, when it has been a native feature of shopify about 6m ago. Makes me wonder what checkboxes or dropdowns will be removed next, so i get the opportunity to buy them back for $360 per year.

I know it’s a bit of an old thread, but we have an article that explains how to create an automatic free shipping discount.
It is a step-by-step guide with screenshots to make it easier to understand. Take a look.
I think for @nicolemelo case, an app like Savify https://apps.shopify.com/savify solved his exact problem:
- Click on “Create discount”
- Check “Order discount” and “Shipping discount”.
- Discount method: choose “Discount code” and enter your code (e.g. FATHERSDAY).
- Order discount value: set the % or fixed-amount you want (e.g. 20 %).
- Shipping discount value: set 100 % to make shipping free.
- Save.
Result: customers enter one code and get both the product/order discount and free shipping in a single shot. If you’d rather skip codes entirely, just switch the method to Automatic discount and the same settings fire on their own.
There is an easier way to provide free shipping in this case.
I think instead of dealing with multiple codes. Allow the customer to use the code ONLY once.
