Hi everyone. I’m having so many hits on the ‘create account’ page on my site. This must be spam or bots but I’m not quite sure what the catch is right now?
This is a hidden link and I have deactivated customer accounts on my site so I’m not sure how people are finding this page or why they would go there but I’m a bit concerned. I want to know if there is away to remove this page completely so no one can sign up even if they have the URL? I don’t want customers to set up an account on my site and it’s not necessary for purchase.
Also, I’m getting between 20-40 new email signups a day which are all from USA, and all filtered email addresses. Most emails don’t match the first name given. I’m suspicious of this too as I’m a new and small UK brand and I’m not sure where these people are coming from.
Does anyone have any info on scams or spam/bots that sounds like either of the above, and any idea how to stop it?
Even with customer logins disabled or “Customer accounts are hidden” the URL for /account/register and /account/login still exist and are accessible. Redirects of those URL’s don’t work - probably count as a “fixed Shopify path” https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/menus-and-links/url-redirect
Do you have Spam Protection enabled. Sales channels > Online store > Preferences > Spam Protection > Enable Google reCAPTCHA on login, create account and password recovery pages.
You can also hide the form via Theme Editor, however i wasn’t able to test on the Stiletto Theme possibly because I’m using a trail version? Theme Editor > Classic customer accounts > Customer register > Template > Registration - Section (hide)
Any idea why I would be getting so many fake accounts? What would be the benefit of doing this? It’s very strange as there isn’t even any account or login functionality on my site so I don’t know why someone would want to do this.
