Main issue: Moving Facebook/Instagram assets is blocked by an active Facebook Commerce account linked via Shopify. Users seek how to disable/deactivate it.
Official guidance shared:
Remove the Facebook channel from Shopify. Then deactivate the Commerce account in Facebook Commerce Manager (Settings > Commerce Account Info > Edit > Deactivate). Ensure admin permissions and download insights first.
Observed outcomes/problems:
Removing the Shopify Facebook channel alone often does not deactivate the Commerce account.
Many cannot see a “Deactivate” option and receive errors when deleting the catalog (“Oops, something went wrong”) or lack permissions.
Workarounds that helped some:
Delete the catalog first; deactivation then appears or the Commerce account auto-disappears.
If deletion errors: rename the catalog, save, then delete.
Alternate path: Facebook Business Manager > Data Sources > Catalogues > select catalogue > Remove (Permanently Delete). Users report this removed the Commerce account and allowed reconnection to Shopify.
Troubleshooting tips:
Clear cache/cookies, update browser, try incognito/another browser or mobile data.
Status: Mixed results. Some resolved by deleting catalog(s); others still blocked by permissions or UI errors. No definitive Shopify-side switch; resolution depends on Facebook Commerce Manager access and catalog deletion.
I also didn’t get shown “deactivate commerce” link and I couldn’t delete the catalog because of the error message.
Try editing the name of the catalog, save it under different name and then try to delete it. That worked for me and I got no error message. After that my commerce account wasn’t even listed as it was deleted.
