How to display variant image in the variant picker?

Topic summary

A user sought to improve mobile UX on their Shopify store (using the Taste theme) by displaying variant images directly in the product picker, eliminating the need for customers to scroll up after selecting an option.

Two main questions were raised:

  • Can variant pickers use images instead of text?
  • Is it possible to reposition the product image below the variant picker?

Solutions identified:

  • The original poster successfully installed the “G:Variant Image + Color Swatch” app, which enables image-based variant selection
  • They planned to explore auto-scrolling functionality as a next step
  • A developer later recommended “Rubik Variant Images” as an alternative solution, noting compatibility with the Taste theme and providing a demonstration video

The thread appears resolved for the original poster’s immediate needs, though the auto-scrolling feature remained under investigation.

Hi,

With my current theme (Taste), it’s inconvenient for users to preview the image of different product options/variants on mobile devices. One has to pick an option then scrolls up to see the image.
I have two questions:

  1. Is it possible to use pictures instead of text for the variant picker?

  2. How to move the product image below the variant picker?
Here’s an example product page: link

Thank you for your help.

Thanks! I installed the app G:Variant Image + Color Swatch and it can show a picture instead of text in the variant picker. I will try to figure out how to do the auto-scrolling as well.

Hi @gozingdown I see this is an old post. I wanted to share a feedback for people coming from search. You can use Rubik Variant Images app to show variant images in your variant picker. The app is supporting all popular themes including your theme Taste. For the full transparency I am the developer of this app. I also recorded a video to show how the app works
