How to do shopping ads for products with multiple variants

All of my products are customisable prints, size and frames. When on Google Shopping ads, I have over 20 “products” of the same print (just all of the variant options). Obviously, it would be very expensive to advertise all, as well as I sell over 300 prints. Is it worth singling the top-selling variants out for shopping ads or am I better off doing performance max ads.

Hello Jess, great question, my name is Emmanuel founder of FeedArmy and your AMA host for today.

It is indeed best that you only list popular sizes, generally consumers know that multiple size options are available, however, in some cases you may find that the size is searched for. So to list or not to list all sizes depends on consumer search behavior.

I have a client selling prints, and what I find is that there are a lot of searches where you see words like large and extra large. So if you don’t list your bigger sizes, then these will not trigger your ads, but competitors who do list them. I also see where they are specifying sizes like 100 x 100.

You would put yourself at a disadvantage, if you just list top selling variants, considering search behavior will not be just your top selling.

However, I would say, do a test, because not always will what I say be correct. Only by testing will you be able to verify if what you want to do is a good idea. And test at least 3 weeks to a month.
