I’m looking to monthly reconciliations between Shopify and Quickbooks but I cannot seem to find anything resembling a monthly statement from Shopify. Does anyone know where I can find a report that shows the opening and closing balances? Ideally it would also show the transactions and payouts. Or how do other people reconcile between Quickbooks and Shopify?

Are you using a Quickbooks integration for Shopify? I would imagine a monthly reconciliation report would be offered by such an app. Have you also looked into sales reporting apps? You may be able to get a report out that way and crunch the numbers between Shopify and QB.

here is a native report for this now — the Payout reconciliation report. It may not have existed when you originally asked.
Where: Shopify admin → Finance → Documents → Payout Reconciliation Report. You need Shopify Payments, and either store-owner access or staff permission to view payouts.
What’s in it: a Summary section with exactly what you described — starting balance, balance change from activity, activity before fees, fees, net amount, total payouts, and ending balance. Below that, an Activity section grouping your balance activity by type (charges, refunds, disputes, adjustments, reserves and holds, shipping label charges, and so on), each with gross, fees, and net. You can set the date range to last month and export to PDF.
For order-level detail, use the Payouts page instead — it lets you export payout transactions to CSV, which is what you want if you’re matching individual orders rather than a period summary.
One thing that trips people up: your Finance reports won’t tie to this report, and that’s expected. Finance reports are built on orders and sales activity; the payout report is built on settlement — when money actually moved. Shopify’s own documentation notes the payout report “isn’t a statement of revenue for accounting purposes.” Different bases, different timing.
Also worth knowing: the report only covers Shopify Payments. Third-party processors, Afterpay, and Shopify billing fees aren’t in it. There’s a 3-day data delay on recent transactions, and if you sell in multiple currencies each payout currency gets its own separate report.
Shopify has added a native Payout Reconciliation Report, which is much closer to what you’re looking for than the older finance reports.

It includes opening and closing balances, payout activity, fees, adjustments, and ending balance. If you need order-level reconciliation, you can also export payout transactions from the Payouts page as CSV.
We’re seeing more merchants ask for easier ways to monitor these kinds of store health and reporting issues. Alongside SEO features, it’s interesting to see Shopify continuing to improve native reporting as well.
