How to fix a 3rd party domain showing as Shopify in the URL?

Hi,

Using NAMES.co.uk for my domain transfer. It is linked and works, however when the full name is in URL as it links it is showing shopify.com in the URL. Which looks really poor. Really stuck with how to fix.

Thank you Sam

Hi @sil3nceovernois , hope you are doing great :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Here’s how you can change your primary domain on Shopify:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. In the Primary domain section, click Change primary domain.
  3. Select the domain that you want to set as your primary domain.
  4. Click Save.

I hope this helps. If you feel like my answer is helpful, please mark it as a SOLUTION. Let me know if you have any questions :slightly_smiling_face:

I had tried this. When set like this the domain is not working at all.

Hi @sil3nceovernois ,

When you sign up for an account with Shopify you are given the .myshopify.com URL as your default address. However, by correctly transferring a third-party domain to your store, you are able to replace this default address with your preferred URL.

What you’ve described suggests that the transfer has not been completed or that a step has been missed along the way. First off, you need to ensure that you connect your domain to your store:

If you pop into your store admin, and then Settings > Domains, can you see your domain connected?

If that is done correctly, you need to prepare your domain for transfer:

You then need to transfer your domain to your Shopify store:

Have you followed these steps correctly and set your primary domain?
