How to fix Google Merchant Centre policy tag issues?

I have added Refund policy, privacy policy, Terms of service and shipping policy in my footers heading, but it still showing add refund and terms of service tag. I am confused what should i do to get it started. I am stuck there. can anybody help me with this.

Hey, there!

That does sound odd, if you’ve added those pages then the Google Shopping channel should catch it and update that list for you. Can I ask if those pages are published and active in your store? YOu can see this by going to the page itself in the admin and checking that it says ‘visible’ in the top right corner:

Just to make sure that the page has been published! Also, when you set them to be in your footer, can you confirm you went to the admin and clicked Online Store > Navigation, and created a Footer menu. then added those pages to the menu? Sometimes, merchants can forget to click the ‘save’ button too!

The next step would be to go to Online Store > Theme > Customise, then select the footer from the sidebar menu. Here, you can add a menu to the footer! You can select the Footer menu here, and those pages should pop up. If you have already added a footer menu to your theme, you can skip this step as the correct menu will already be there.

If you have already followed those steps and your store requirements list is still not updating, could you try clearing your cache and then refreshing the page? There is a guide here on how to clear your cache when using a Mac. For all other devices, there is a more general guide here. Also, it would be worthwhile checking in on your admin using a different internet browser, just as a troubleshooting step.

Let me know how you get on, I’m sure we can get to the bottom of this!

Facing the same issue and it is reflecting in the footer, have added from the legal page as well as from the normal page, yet it is not identifying the same.

Oh, thank you so much for the screenshots here @pranavgupta !

I’ve just created a test store to see if this is a recurring issue. When I added the required pages, the Refund Policy and Terms of Service, the admin did not seem to automatically detect that the pages were added. The channel is supposed to detect when these pages we added; the Google Channel Store Requirements checklist will check for Legal Pages (refund policy and terms of service) added to your footer navigation menu. If none are detected, you can create those pages by clicking the item on the checklist or going to Settings > Legal and then link to their footer navigation menu. After checking in with our Technical team, the issue here is that the policy pages may have been added to the footer via the Pages link in the admin, rather than via the Policies link. Could you try:

  • Add all policy pages from Settings > Legal specifically to the footer menu.
  • When adding the links to the footer menu, select Policies from the list here rather than Pages:

Once you’ve connected the policies this way, you can go back to the Google Channel and go to the list of requirements. Click the hyperlink text for “Refund policy…” and you will see a pop up where you can choose the “I’ve already added them” button. This will essentially let you manually tick off this requirement if the admin is not automatically detecting them!

If you’ve already added your policies via the Legal section, you should be able to access the pop up box that allows you to click the “I’ve already added them” button if you click on the blue text here:

Could you give this a try and let me know if it works for you? This method would be a great troubleshooting step for you too, @Abhijit21 !

Hi Ava,

Thanks for the solution. I did add those as Legal Pages now. Screenshot attached below.

After adding these, like you mentioned it did not automatically detect still. So I clicked on it and it just redirected me to the “Legal” Page.

Hence still unable to verify.

Basically I received no pop up like you mentioned I will

@Ava Forgot to mention you on the message.

Hi again @pranavgupta & @Abhijit21 !

Thank you so much for the screenshots, it looks like you’ve followed all the steps correctly. I’ve had a chat with our Technical team who specialise in the Google Channel, they have asked if you can totally remove the Google Channel, then reinstall it again? They believe that reinstalling the channel again may force through the requirement items that seem to be stuck at the moment. This will hopefully resolve the issue!

If you try removing/re-adding the channel and you are still seeing this list as unfulfilled (though you’ve followed the steps) the Technical team have asked if you can contact our support team here via this link to chat in more detail. This way our support team can properly authenticate you as the owners of your respective stores and they can refresh your Google connection internally; this will force the requirements to be accepted so this issue can be resolved for you.

Let me know if that works for you!

Hi @Ava This has worked. Thanks a lot for your help.

Oh, fantastic!

Thank you so much for updating me here, I really appreciate it. And I’m so glad to hear this is up and running for you now! Your next step is to sync your products to Google so you can begin to create Smart Shopping campaigns. This should really boost your online presence and get traffic to your store!

@Abhijit21 could I check in with you and ask if you tried to uninstall/re-install the Google Channel? If the other steps I’ve suggested haven’t worked, then uninstall/re-installing should refresh the connection and let the requirements list be resolved. Let me know if it works for you!

Thanks, folks!

Hi Ava

I seem to have the same problem, but with both the policies and contact information. I have tried the steps you’ve suggested and also disconnected and reconnected google but still no luck. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance
