Hi, @AmoreBouquets .
Thank you for reaching out and bringing this to our attention!
I understand that you’re trying to enable Google reCAPTCHA in the Spam Protection for your store and the reCAPTCHA isn’t loading. Just to confirm, does the issue persist on a different browser or device? Also, was there any custom coding or modifications made to your theme?
If you’re not sure where the issue might be coming from, then we may need to perform some troubleshooting steps in order to isolate the problem. Can you check whether the issue persists on a fresh install of the Dawn theme? Or, with another one of our free themes?
I’ve also taken the opportunity to look over your store and I think your store looks amazing! I love the variety of sections on the homepage and it looks very professional. That being said, I think there may be an opportunity to add store policies to your store or include more information on the FAQ that can help address some of the more common questions that customers might have. Have you considered interacting with customers live on your store using something like Shopify Inbox? Also, do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?
Hi Elias,
I just did a fresh install of Dawn and there is no reCAPTCHA for my Contact page too. I checked the Shopify Demo (https://theme-dawn-demo.myshopify.com/pages/contact-us), the reCAPTCHA is missing too.
Hi, @Wowotoe .
Thank you for reaching out and bringing this to our attention!
The Shopify demo store may not have Google reCAPTCHA enabled, as this is something that can be toggled under the store preferences. However, if you’ve enabled Google reCAPTCHA for your store and it’s not working on the Dawn theme, then it looks like we’ll need to access your store in order to resolve the issue. While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community at this time, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback. Please visit the Shopify Help Center and log in to your account to create a support request.
On the other hand, if you’re comfortable working with coding languages (eg. HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Liquid), then you can also use our developer’s guide, CAPTCHA, to check over your theme codes and ensure the reCAPTCHA v3 is properly installed on the contact form.
I can see that you are a new member of our Shopify Community! Once you’ve resolved that issue with reCAPTCHA, I’d love to hear more about your experience so far and share some resources to help you with your store!
Hi @Elias . I am using Dawn (now version 8 and I have enabled reCaptcha in the settings but I can’t see the checkbox in neither contact form nor customer login/register. I also checked the liquid file (i have little knowledge of HTML) and I couldn’t see a mention of Captcha.
Can you help?
Do you have access to the people who coded Dawn to ask?
My eshop is fullhands.co.uk
I am really surprised other people don’t have this issue. I do use an add-on app Multi-vendor marketplace
Hi, @pippaw .
Thank you for joining the thread!
I’ve taken a look at your store (fullhands.co.uk) and I am seeing the reCaptcha icon on your store, which indicates that it should be working. However, as our work device is validated through Google reCaptcha on a daily basis, I’m afraid I may not be able to test this conclusively on my end. As a result, we may need to access your account in order to get a closer look and resolve the the issue.
Google reCaptcha is enabled by default and our system will still trigger a reCaptcha challenge when it detects too many forms or comments are coming from the same IP address (in a short period of time) even if reCaptcha is disabled in the preferences. On that note, it’s also possible that the device you’re using has already been validated, which would not require validating again unless something like a change in IP address was detected for example. In order to properly test Google ReCaptcha, you may need to try accessing your store using a different device or browser.
Do you have another device on hand that hasn’t logged into your Shopify account in which you can use for testing? Or, can you get someone to visit your store and try sending a a few contact forms (at least 5 or more)?

Hello, @mlobo9 .
Thank you for joining the thread!
The Google reCAPTCHA cannot be completely disabled as this is a security feature, and our system will still trigger a reCAPTCHA challenge when it detects 5 or more submissions (eg. forms or comments) from the same IP address within a short period of time even if the reCAPTCHA is disabled. That being said, this type of reCAPTCHA challenge shouldn’t present a problem for most of your customers as they generally wouldn’t need to submit that many forms in a short amount of time.
In order to test whether or not the reCAPTCHA has been disabled properly, you may need to use a different browser or device as your current IP address may have already triggered the reCAPTCHA challenge for multiple submissions. Essentially, if you’re able to create a new customer account, sign up for the newsletter, and submit a contact form - all without triggering a reCAPTCHA, then the reCAPTCHA can be considered properly disabled.
I’ve also tried taking a look at your store (www.lobomaryhyphen.com) but it looks like your custom domain might not have been connected properly. Do you need help with connecting a third-party domain to Shopify?
thanks Elias. did the recaptcha show for you? AS it does keep showing for me across different devices and browsers even when I use different emails. and I have also asked friends to try with different IPs. So it doesn’t seem disabled. what do you suggest?
Also one issue I have is then changing the design of the submit button when people input the captch for the first time I want to remove the filling of the background colour to make it transparant to just keep the outline. But I cannot seem to find the button anywhere in the code to edit.
Hey, @mlobo9 .
Thanks for following up!
I wasn’t able to check the reCAPTCHA on your site as the URL you’ve shared indicates that the site couldn’t be reached. Can you check whether there’s any issues with your domain or if there’s a mistake with the URL?
Since the reCAPTCHA is affecting your friends with different IP addresses, then it looks like we’ll need to access your account in order to get a closer look at the problem. While we’re unable to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community, we’d be happy to further assist you through live chat, email, or callback. Please visit the Shopify Help Center and log into your account to create a support request.
As for changing the design of Google’s reCAPTCHA challenge, it looks like this is possible and you can learn more using their guide - Customizing the Look and Feel of reCAPTCHA. While I can also confirm that Shopify’s CAPTCHA uses Google’s reCAPTCHA v3 with the ability to fall back to reCAPTCHA v2, you may need to consider hiring a developer to assist you with this task if you’re not comfortable working with custom coding. On that note, if you need help finding a developer, then we’d recommend taking a look at our directory of certified developers on Shopify Experts.
