How to fix persistent 404 errors after updating international URLs in Markets feature?

Hello, about 4 months ago my client implemented the Shopify Markets feature, but choose to create new URL paths for each international country (/en-gb/,/en-au/, and /en-nz/ ). I had to correct these were basically duplicate content. So, I updated it to the primary domain only. Unfortunately, since then this has created tons of 404s even though I have redirected these old pages tons of time. I’m wondering if there is an actual fix for this issue rather than just keep 301ing these URLS. Thanks.
