How to fix the 'Error Certificate Common Name Invalid' issue on my website?

Topic summary

Intermittent browser warning “Error Certificate Common Name Invalid” appears for some visitors to a Shopify-hosted site (domain originally with GoDaddy), while others access it normally.

Diagnosis: The warning relates to the SSL certificate (HTTPS). It can stem from links pointing to non‑Shopify pages or DNS misconfiguration causing a hostname mismatch with the certificate. The site’s SSL is issued, but DNS for the ‘www’ host showed issues.

Findings: External check indicated an unnecessary A record on ‘www’ and a mispointed CNAME. Advisor recommended keeping only the apex A record and setting ‘www’ CNAME to shops.myshopify.com. Screenshots were shared to illustrate SSL status and DNS records.

Actions taken: Merchant updated the ‘www’ CNAME from roseella-designs.myshopify.com to shops.myshopify.com. The extra A record wasn’t visible in GoDaddy, so no change there.

Next steps: If customers still see the SSL error after the DNS change, contact Shopify Support for further troubleshooting.

Domain management: Merchant asked about transferring the domain to Shopify. Advisor suggested keeping it with GoDaddy for flexibility; transfer is possible (help link provided).

Status: Likely addressed; awaiting confirmation from visitor reports.

Thank you so much for your reply

I’ve just gone onto the DNS records and tried to find the records that you’ve mentioned, but when I go there the other A record isn’t there and there’s heaps of other records ? sorry I’m not a very tech savvy person.
