How to grant file access permissions in my online store?

Hi there,

I am trying to give someone permission to the files section in my Shopify, although it doesn’t work yet.

Does anyone know what box I have to check in order to give permission?

To give someone permission to access the files section in your Shopify store, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin account.
  2. Click on the “Settings” tab in the lower left corner of the page.
  3. Click on the “Files” option in the “Settings” menu.
  4. Scroll down to the “Staff Accounts” section.
  5. Click on the “Add staff account” button.
  6. Fill in the staff member’s name and email address.
  7. Select the “Files” box in the “Permissions” section.
  8. Choose the level of access you want to grant, such as “Read and write” or “Read only.”
  9. Click on the “Send invite” button to send an email invitation to the staff member.

Once the staff member accepts the invitation, they will be able to access the files section in your Shopify store according to the permissions you have granted them.

First of all thanks for the reply.

When I click on settings, this is the list of choices do not include files.

Also under users & permissions there are a lot of boxes I can check, but files isn’t one of them. Therefore I still have not figured out how to give someone access to the files section.

I hope you can help me find the answer to my question.

In the Admin’s permission settings, select “Manage settings” under Administration. Took me a while too!

I’m still not seeing the “files” section under the “Settings” tab. Please advise - thank you!

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Click Users and Permissions

  3. Click on the specific Admin profile you want to grant access

  4. Scroll down to the Permissions Section

  5. Under Administration, click the check box next to Manage Settings.

Files used to be under settings…. It’s under “content” now on the left side of your screen where you normally go to customers or products. Except on the shopify mobile app where for some reason it is still in settings.

and the “administration” is now called “Store settings” after you are in settings.

Is there a way to give “Files” permissions to a “Staff”? Previous posts have only mentioned granting it to admin profiles. The Staff page only mentions “Metaobjects”, but not “Files”:

“Admin” and “Staff” are used interchangeably. They actually changed the format in the last week. So, these are the updated instructions, with a new STEP 5…

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Click Users and Permissions

  3. Click on the specific Admin (AKA Staff) profile you want to grant access

  4. Scroll down to the Store Permissions Section

  5. Scroll down to, and expand Store Settings, click the check box next to Manage Settings.

Thanks - I was able to find the setting, and have contacted my staff. Hopefully it’ll let them continue their progress.

Why aren’t the file permissions included in the CONTENT section and specific to Files (instead of a giant swath of settings permissions)? Makes no sense Shopify.

100% agree couldn’t figure this out thank you for the thread! @Shopify_77 please make this change to be more user friendly for store owners.
