How to handle a product with one purchase but multiple deliveries throughout the year?

Hi,
I’m trying to figure out the best way to set up a product in Shopify. The idea is that the customer makes one purchase, but that purchase includes four deliveries spread out over the year.

Would this be considered a “bundle” product, or is it better to think about this in terms of subscriptions or something else?

I’d appreciate any guidance on what approach makes the most sense in Shopify for this type of setup.

Thanks!

Hello @vicctor ,

I hope you are doing well!

I think that the Membership is the best option available for your use case. So, here is the path or work which can be done:

1.) Customer purchase the membership. It can be free or paid or we can just replace the form with a registration from of the store in place of free.

2.) The perks of free delivery will be provided to the customer whole year. You can also add multiple perks with free shipping like some special discount in membership.

This approach can be done with the help of AiTrillion. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know.

Great question — this is a common scenario for brands that sell things like seasonal boxes, quarterly clubs, or gift memberships. Let’s break it down:

How to set this up in Shopify

Option 1: Simple “Prepaid Bundle” Approach (no subscription app)

  • Create one product (e.g. “Yearly Gift Box – 4 Deliveries”).

  • Set price = total for 4 deliveries.

  • In the product description: clearly explain they’ll receive 4 shipments, one each quarter.

  • On the fulfillment side:

    • Each quarter, manually ship the box to everyone who purchased.

    • Keep track using Shopify’s customer list, tags, or exporting orders to a spreadsheet.

  • Apps like Mechanic or PreProduct can help automate reminders, tagging, or tracking unfulfilled shipments.

Option 2: Subscriptions App with Prepaid Plans

  • Apps like Recharge, Skio, Loop let you set up “prepaid subscriptions” (e.g. pay once for 4 shipments).

  • Customers still pay once upfront, but the app schedules 4 separate shipments in Shopify automatically.

  • Some apps also allow auto-renewal, so after 12 months they can renew unless canceled (good for retention).

By using above one of any option you can ensure to implement it.

Thanks a lot for breaking this down, that makes things much clearer!

One follow-up question: could Shopify’s Split Shipping feature be an alternative for this kind of setup?
For example, if a customer buys one product that represents the whole year, could Split Shipping help manage the fact that there will be four separate deliveries? Or is it mainly intended for cases where items in the same order are fulfilled from different locations/at different times?

Thank you so much for your suggestion! I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the Membership option.

For our type of store though, I don’t think Memberships would be the right fit. We’re specifically looking for a setup where a single purchase results in four separate deliveries during the year, rather than ongoing perks or benefits tied to membership.

Thanks again for your input!

You’re right, Shopify’s Split Shipping is mainly for cases where items in the same order ship separately due to stock locations or partial fulfillment. It won’t automatically manage planned future deliveries across months. For your scenario (4 shipments over a year), a prepaid bundle or a subscription app is the better fit.

Okay! I know that you don’t want to use membership but I understood your requirement and can confirm that this can be done using Membership using draft order. Customers just have to register on your store if you want a free plan or customers can place the order and will get the products using 4 draft order/Year.

I want you to just keep the solution or this work around in mind.

helo @vicctor

For your scenario with one purchase and four deliveries spread over the year, this is best set up as a prepaid subscription rather than a bundle.

Here’s how to configure it:

  • Subscription type: Prepaid

  • Deliver every: 3 months (quarterly)

  • Charge every: 4 deliveries

  • Maximum number of payments: 1

:backhand_index_pointing_right: This setup charges the customer once upfront for all four deliveries, then automatically delivers every 3 months throughout the year. The subscription will automatically end after the four deliveries are complete.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: You can use RecurrinGO subscription app to set this up: RecurrinGO! Subscriptions App - Shopify Subscriptions App RecurrinGO! - Best Choice 2025 | Shopify App Store

here’s how to set 4-delivery scenario this with RecurrinGO:

Create a prepaid subscription rule:

  1. Go to RecurrinGO → Subscription rules and click Create subscription rule

  2. Choose Auto-charging subscriptions

  3. Select Prepaid as the subscription type

Configure the Settings:

  • Deliver every: 3 months (quarterly)

  • Charge every: 4 deliveries

  • Maximum number of payments: 1

This setup charges customers once upfront for all four deliveries, then automatically delivers every 3 months throughout the year. The subscription automatically ends after the four deliveries are complete.

:sparkles::collision: Hope this helps!
