I am looking for some insights as to how I can load some of my products into my Shopify store as “custom products” basically keeping them as part of my collections, but not displaying the price ($0) anywhere on the website.
The use case here is a floral designer e-comm store - some arrangements are just too custom to be able to order them from a Shopify listing, but i’d still like to display them as products and encourage customers to call the store if they’d like something similar.
I am using Motion theme by Archetype Themes that uses sections and while I am definitely no developer, I am comfortable enough with liquid to go in and try to change some code. In short, I really don’t want to pay someone if I can avoid it.
This is Elias from Shopify Support. Thank you for reaching out!
Though our Theme Support isn’t able to help with third-party themes, it is possible to replace the “add to cart” button with a contact link for your custom products. With this customization, you’ll be creating a separate product template and assigning the template to the custom products. This way, you can keep them as part of your collection and with a contact button instead. After that, you can create draft orders and send invoices to interested customers directly from your admin.
As for hiding the prices on the custom products, I was only able to find a guide for hiding all prices on your store. However, if you’ve created the separate product template from before, you can remove the line of code for prices from this template. Since you’re only hiding prices and removing the “add to cart” on the custom products, it will be easier applying these both modifications to the same product template.
On the other hand, I did find two other forum discussions offering different suggestions for hiding prices - Hiding Prices on Sold Out items…? and hide prices of products in a collection?. Since you want to prevent custom products from being bought directly online, you can use this method and mark your products as sold out. The benefit of this method is that it can hide the prices for all your sold out items, not just the custom products, if that interests you.
Alternatively, you can reach out directly to Archetype Themes and see if they can provide any suggestions for their coding. You can accomplish this by using a third-party app as well, such as Hide & Add to Cart. If you need any assistance with third-party apps, you can always reach out to the developer through the contact information found in the Support section of their app’s page.
Since you’re building custom products with varying customizations, did you get a chance to look at some of the available bundle apps?
