We are new to Shopify having migrated from woocommerce for a number of reasons. However, we are a huge eBay seller of pre-owned equipment. This of course means that we have one unique item of each thing that we sell. Once it’s sold, it’s gone forever. So inventory management is super important across multiple channels. When using woocommerce we had a plug-in that would sink in real time, meaning a second if that. After a sale was made on another channel. All the other channels would be updated immediately. Now using the marketplace connect app it is taking up to an hour to sync our inventory between channels. Marketplace. Connect support. Keeps trying to blame eBay for this. However, clearly it is not an issue with eBay given the fact that our plug-in from woocommerce worked within a second of an inventory change. This is definitely and has already led to false orders where someone ordered off of eBay and then also ordered the same item on Shopify. Which is actually the better situation because we wouldn’t get dinged by eBay. However, it is now also happened when they purchased on Shopify and then the item was sold on eBay as well. 30 minutes later. Of course we had to convince the buyer to cancel their order so that we would not get dinged. This is not a good way to run business. And I am shocked to find that I would be the only one with this issue. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is there a better way to sync inventory real time? I believe the app was originally made by Codisto And all of the marketing and documentation would suggest real-time inventory sync.
Topic summary
Inventory sync delays with Shopify’s Marketplace Connect (formerly Codisto) are causing overselling for a seller of one‑of‑a‑kind, pre‑owned items. After migrating from WooCommerce—where a plugin synced inventory across channels within ~1 second—Marketplace Connect is taking up to an hour to update stock between Shopify and eBay.
Impacts:
- Duplicate orders when an item sells on one channel and remains available on the other (e.g., Shopify sale followed by an eBay sale ~30 minutes later), risking penalties and requiring buyer cancellations.
Perspectives:
- Seller asserts the issue is not with eBay, citing prior real‑time performance on WooCommerce and app marketing that promises real‑time sync.
- A developer claims eBay provides a real‑time callback endpoint for inventory updates, implying reliance on eBay’s feeds, and offers a custom/private app solution. A link and email contact were shared for direct assistance.
Open questions and next steps:
- Inquiry about the number of SKUs/items to assess scale was asked; no response yet.
- No confirmed fix; potential path via a private app or alternative tooling. Discussion remains unresolved and ongoing.

If you want I can help you out to make it faster just for you to solve your immediate problem.
Please feel free to let me know your thoughts on this.
How can you make their sync faster?
There is a callback endpoint provided by ebay which gives us real-time feed for inventory-related updates, so the responsibility is on ebay to provide us updates.
If you want we can connect over email to discuss the problem in more depth and we can build a private for your store
