How to insert CSS in the checkout information page?

Topic summary

A user wants to add custom CSS styling to Shopify’s checkout information page, specifically to modify select field focus states with custom colors and backgrounds.

Current Limitation:

  • Shopify does not allow CSS customization on checkout pages for standard plans
  • This functionality is only available with Shopify Plus subscription

Available Workarounds:

  • Users can only modify checkout field settings and store background through Shopify Settings
  • No direct CSS editing access for checkout pages on lower-tier plans

User Concerns:

  • Frustration that other e-commerce platforms allow checkout CSS customization
  • Desire for visual consistency between website theme (dark theme) and checkout appearance
  • Preference for transparent form styling that matches their site design
  • Concern that mismatched checkout styling looks unprofessional

Status: Unresolved - the limitation remains, with hope expressed that Shopify may update this feature in the future. The support representative acknowledges this is a common pain point for many merchants.

I need to add CSS to the information page at the payment checkout

I need add:

select:focus {
background-color: #1b1b1b;
text-decoration-color: #ffffff;
}

Hi @Jan3Doe

This is Noah from PageFly - Shopify Page Builder App

So sorry but currently with Shopify Settings, you won’t be able to customize anything in the Checkout page.

It only possible to customize if you have the plan Shopify Plus for your store.

And the only thing you can do for now is change whole background of the store settings, and change the checkout fields in Shopify Settings

Hope this can help you solve the issue

Best regards,

Noah | PageFly

It is quite bad of Shopify that it doesn’t let you modify CSS, since any other platform allows it. And shopify plus is not for everyone. I understand that not allowing you to modify more technical aspects to improve the payment in a more specific way, but visually I think it is a mistake since it is the final part of a sale and you want it to be in line with your website. And using a dark theme will make me look bad, and that’s paying a monthly fee. Anyway..

Thanks for your response, I was going crazy for not finding where the code is stored.

Finally, how the form looks, I preferred transparent. Disappointed.

So sorry for it. I hope Shopify will update this in the future.

That will help to solve a lot of problems since I saw so many customers have the same issue/concern.
