How to limit single product orders to one per customer?

Hello,
I would like to limit the ordering of samples for my customers to 1 sample in total.
Currently I use the app “Order Limits”.
This allows customers to buy only 1 product, but every time. I want only one product to be ordered at a time. Does anyone have a solution?
