I’m using the ride theme for my website and everytime I go to add a new block that is collapsible, all the row content I input goes on every page of products. How do I fix this, so each page is unique?
Hi there @marker82 . Thank you for posting your question! I’m happy to help you out with this. What type of products do you sell and what type of content are you trying to include in your collapsible blocks?
When you make changes in your theme editor you are editing a specific template which is then applied to the pages, products, etc. that you create within your Shopify Admin. When you make a change to your product page template in your theme editor, you are actually editing your Default product template which is automatically applied to all of your products (unless you manually change the template that’s being used). This means that when you add content into the collapsible row blocks using your theme editor, you are adding that content to every page using that product page template (which is all of your products, by default). Instead of editing your product information in your theme editor you will want to edit the content using the product details page in your Shopify Admin. This will allow each product to have unique product information. You can get to the product details page by going to Products and selecting the product you want to edit. That being said, for the collapsible rows you set up in your theme editor there isn’t a space automatically built into the product details page where you can enter content. This is where using metafields comes in. You can use metafields to help you save and display information that isn’t usually captured in the Shopify Admin. To use metafields there are ultimately three steps:
- Create the metafield definition following these steps here.
- Add the metafield value to the correct part of your store following these steps here.
- Connect metafields to your theme to display specialized information on your online store following these steps here.
I’ve included what these steps may look like below using a “Dimensions” metafield as an example:
