I’m surprised to have to be writing this about a Shopify 2.0 theme but here we are.
The Issue
From what I can see, I cannot set homepage banners to be clickable. You must use one of the button overlays and only the button can be clicked. Nowhere else on the image.
Does anybody know of any free apps that could handle this?
I’ve spoken to Shopify and they suggested that I edit the code myself, download an app or better yet pay them to resolve this issue for me. This is completely nuts to me, an omission of such basic functionality that every popular website in the world uses.
I cannot go into my bosses office and tell him with a straight face that we need to pay to make a banner clickable.
I’m considering abandoning this theme which is a shame because it looks great and fits our brand well, but to require custom development for such a simple thing has blown my mind.
I’m not the only person who would be tasked with updating banners on this site, and the other people have no knowledge of HTML or coding, so changing it in code seems like it may not be suitable. Having to edit URLs in code every time we want to change a homepage banner on the fly is bizarre to me.
