The main product on my site has a couple of different color variants available, but it auto-selects green. When it does this, the picture is automatically switched to the green picture which is not the media I want to be displayed first. How can I either get the site to display the proper item picture first or add a “Select” option that the drop-down menu can default to before switching straight to the green?

You can achieve this via 2 methods:

Change the default variant selected via the Shopify admin (easiest)
Go to the edit product page. Scroll down to the Variants card. Click the More options dropdown (top-right of the card), then click re-order variants. From here, you can drag and drop to re-arrange. I’ve attached some images below to demonstrate. -
Make the variant unselected by default (force the user to choose)
This one is a bit more complicated, but if you’d like to give it a go, here is a tutorial.

Thanks a lot for your message. I have the same issue, but the recent updates on Shopify is different from this and doesn’t allow me to remove the default variant option. Any help will be very much appreciated.
