How can I manage inventory if I want to sell products with country-wise restrictions?
I mean, is it possible to allocate specific inventory quantities for sale based on different countries?
Shopify doesn’t have a built-in way to allocate specific inventory quantities per country out of the box, but there are a couple of approaches depending on your setup.
If you’re on Shopify Markets, you can restrict which products are available in which markets. That won’t split inventory quantities, but it controls visibility so customers in certain countries simply won’t see products you don’t want to sell there.
For actual inventory allocation by region, you’d want to use multiple locations (one per country/region) and assign inventory to each. Then with Shopify Flow or a third-party app, you can route orders to the correct location based on the shipping address.
What’s your use case exactly? Are you trying to limit stock per country because of shipping restrictions, or is it more about reserving inventory for different markets?
Hi @Appshree ,
Shopify doesn’t currently support country-wise inventory allocation out of the box. Inventory is managed by location, not by customer country.
However, there are a couple of practical workarounds:
Use Shopify Markets to control which products are available in specific countries. This won’t split inventory but can restrict purchases by region.
Create separate locations (warehouses) and assign inventory to each one, then configure shipping so certain countries are served by specific locations.
If you need stricter control, you can also duplicate products for different markets or use an app that manages product availability based on customer location.
So while Shopify doesn’t directly allocate inventory per country, these methods can help you manage regional product availability effectively.
Shopify still doesn’t let you allocate separate inventory quantities per country from a single stock pool. Inventory is tracked at the location level, not country level.
What you can do:
• Use Shopify Markets + multiple locations (one per country/region)
• Assign inventory to each location
• Restrict which locations fulfill which markets
This way, customers in each country only buy from their assigned inventory, but it’s not true “country-wise inventory allocation”, it’s a workaround using locations + markets.
So yeah, possible with setup, but not natively as clean per-country inventory buckets.
You could have the app builder build you an app that displays inventory for each location, filter and map by country. Basically a dashboard that will show you inventory levels in each country. Wouldn’t be able to change Shopify’s location allocation logic. But would be a useful visual.
