How to mass disable customer accounts without deleting them?

Hi,

We are using an app named Locksmith to grant access to our site using unique registration codes that customers find in their products when they buy.

Each registration is only good for 5 years and we need to be able to disable accounts at that time without deleting them. Just block them off the site until they renew their subscription.

I’m having to do this manually and we are talking of hundreds of accounts that expire each week.

I’ve been searching for a way to do this via CSV but apparently, Shopify’s formats do not include a field to trigger the update.

Any ideas how to accomplish this? Perhaps an app? Locksmith is unable to do it. Shopify does not seem to grasp the idea and is suggesting to delete accounts by adding a tag to the CSV. The last thing we want is to lose

1000s of accounts purchasing history.

Be warned, i have many questions!

  • Why do they need a unique code?
  • If the customer purchased something, wouldn’t that help to determine if they should have access? That could remove a need for a code or may provide a different way of doing it
  • What does locking protect?

I ask to help build up some context so I better understand.

Do note that If you’re trying to mask content you could choose to render something based on the customers attributes (tag, metafield, etc). Masking content doesn’t always mean that content can’t be seen so would be interested in seeing what you’ve got today.

Locking protects a site that allows customers free spice refills. Only customers who registered using their code are able to get the free product.
