Topic summary

Connecting a GoDaddy‑purchased domain to Shopify and verifying it via DNS.

  • Setup options:

    • Use Shopify’s automatic GoDaddy connection (linked help guide).
    • Or connect manually in GoDaddy’s DNS settings.
  • Manual DNS values (core requirements):

    • A record [email removed] → 23.227.38.65 (maps your root domain to Shopify’s IP).
    • CNAME (www) → shops.myshopify.com (points www to Shopify).
    • If needed, set Host to [email removed] for the A record and remove any other A records.
  • Verification steps in Shopify:

    • Admin > Settings > Domains > Connect existing domain > enter domain > Verify connection.
    • Status should show under Third‑party domains as Connected once propagated.
  • Timing & troubleshooting:

    • Propagation/verification can take up to 48 hours.
    • If errors persist, recheck A/CNAME values in GoDaddy or contact GoDaddy support.
  • Additional related issue raised:

    • Facebook domain verification failing for a store using the default Shopify domain; one suggestion is to disable the storefront password (Online Store > Preferences) before verifying.
  • Outcome: No confirmed resolution yet; guidance provided centers on the above DNS records, verification steps, and propagation window.

I am trying to verify my domain. My domain is through GoDaddy. GoDaddy says I need to gain DNS records and add those records on GoDaddy. How do I recover DNS records from basic shopify account?

Hi,

To connect your domain to Shopify, please read the Shopify Help article below (for automatic setup).

https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/add-a-domain/connecting-domains/connect-domain-automatic

If you want to connect manually, please follow the steps below.

  1. Go to GoDaddy Domain Control Center at

https://sso.godaddy.com/login?app=dcc&path=%2fdomains%3fshowAdvanceListView%3dtrue&auth_reason=1

Add A Record & CNAME

They are located on different pages in GoDaddy (Find a correct page to add or modify the record).

Add A Record [email removed] 23.227.38.65

Add CNAME [email removed] shops.myshopify.com

You may need to use the [email removed] symbol or not (follow the instruction on GoDaddy)

You don’t have to enter any other information.

After you entered (add or modify) the records on GoDaddy, go back to Shopify Admin > Settings > Domain

Then verify your domain.

You should be connected.

However, if you got any errors or warnings, your records on GoDaddy is not correct.

You can modify the records (A Record & CNAME) at any time on GoDaddy. So, don’t worry and try it until it works.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi @John_robert2022 ,

Since you purchased your domain from GoDaddy then you can connect your domain to Shopify automatically by following this guide.

If you have trouble setting up your domain automatically, then try to connect it manually from within your GoDaddy account. The DNS records are mentioned in this guide.

Please note that it might take up to 48 hours for your domain to be verified.

If you need help with pointing your domain to your Shopify store, then contact GoDaddy’s support team for further assistance.

I hope it helps.

Hi there, @John_robert2022 ! Firstly let me say welcome to Shopify, and congrats on your new store!

The good news is that setting up and verifying a domain is a simple enough thing to do, I will walk you through the steps below. You mentioned DNS settings above, and you are right that setting up and verifying your domain is done via editing the DNS settings. As your domain was purchased via GoDaddy, you will have to access your GoDaddy dashboard to edit the DNS settings for this domain. Here are the steps:

  1. On your domain provider’s website, log in to your account.
  2. Find the DNS settings or domain management area.
  3. Change the following records:
    1. Point the A record to the Shopify IP address 23.227.38.65.
    2. If necessary, change the Host name to the @ symbol.
    3. Delete any other A records on the domain if there are any present.
    4. Point the CNAME record with the name www to shops.myshopify.com.

Once you have completed this, the next steps are:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. Click Connect existing domain.
  3. Enter your domain, such as johns-apparel.info, and then click Next.
  4. To confirm that your domain is connected to your Shopify store, click Verify connection.

It might take up to 48 hours for your domain to be verified. After it’s verified, your domain is listed in the THIRD-PARTY DOMAINS section of the Domains page with the status Connected. A really useful video walking through all of these steps can be seen here. I hope this helps!

How are you finding Shopify so far? Do you have your store set up exactly as you’d like it? Is there anything I can help or advise on?
