I am wondering how I can add a share icon to my nav menu and when clicking on it, it triggers a similar popup/light-box shown the reference website. I imagine this isn’t easy to implement but thought I’d ask in case someone knows of a good app to use for this purpose.

You’re absolutely right placing a share button in the navigation menu can be a bit more complex, but it’s definitely possible through custom code or certain third-party applications.
That said, since you’re aiming for a very specific behavior ( https://natcoalson.com/), a custom-coded solution would be the best and most flexible option.
