How to resolve domain transfer issues from Bluehost to an ecommerce platform?

I’m having issues transfering a secondary URL that was hosted on Bluehost over to Shopify. I paid for it on the Shopify side, used the transfer code, everything seemed fine, but now it’s telling me that Bluehost does not have anything in the CNAME or A RECORD… unfortunately, I can’t change those records because… I TRANSFERRED IT TO SHOPIFY! So I’m stuck in a loop, and I’m not sure what to do. Since Bluehost no longer does domain hosting without webhosting their menu options don’t let me do much except transfer it back.

Here’s the error showing on Shopify’s side:

A and CNAME entered incorrectly
Check that you’ve entered the required values, and verify your connection again.

I’d like to try to clarify the situation here with you somewhat, so we can ensure you get the help you need!

If this domain has in fact been transferred to be hosted by Shopify (as opposed to just being pointed at your Shopify store) you should be able to view and edit the DNS records for that domain.

Check out our guide to editing the DNS records for Shopify-managed domains here on our help site, and let me know if you’re able to see that domain show up there.

If you can let me know the domain name in question, I can run a few checks online to see what info we can see on the current status of that domain.

yes it shows up under domains, but says setup in progress.

I hate the way Shopify’s help just opens link after link so you can’t get a thorough answer, but rather a rambling tree of answers that is increasingly difficult to follow… I’m trying to follow the ‘transfer your domain to Shopify’ tree branches but it is very frustrating.

If you can see the domain showing up in your admin there, is it possible to click in to ‘manage’ this domain there?

If so, you can see how to edit the DNS settings for this Shopify-managed domain here on our help site.

Should this not be visible or available to you, I’d recommend reaching out for support via the Help Centre as previously outlined.

For account-related support like this, you can enter your topic before scrolling down the screen to see the option to click continue to get support.

If you’re happy to share the domain name in question with me here, I can take a look at the current DNS settings for that domain using some free online tools.

Thanks for your support. My domains show up there, but when I try to manage them, the examples provided do not match what I see so it’s hard to follow the instructions.

Now my emails aren’t coming through. :disappointed_face:

I just did a test with my alternate email and it bounced back.

Also it still says ‘setup in progress’ for all my domains. What do I do to finish setup?
