How to restrict the installation of app by geographical requirements

Topic summary

A developer submitted an app for Shopify review with geographical restrictions set to UK and US only in the submission form. However, Shopify’s review team flagged that stores outside these specified countries can still install the app, marking this as “Unresolved.”

Core Issue:

  • Setting geographical requirements in the app submission form alone does not automatically prevent installations from other regions
  • The developer expected this setting to enforce restrictions, but it appears to be informational only

Current Status:

  • The original poster has been unable to find documentation on how to implement actual geographical blocking
  • Two other developers have encountered the identical problem
  • No solutions or workarounds have been identified yet

The discussion remains open with participants seeking guidance on how to programmatically enforce geographical installation restrictions beyond the submission form settings.

I have submitted my app for review, and I have set the Geographical Requirements in the app submission form to be UK & US:

Shopify have replied to my review saying:
“2 . Unresolved: For stores outside of the countries specified in your geographical requirements must not be able to install the app.”

I was under the impression that just setting the geographical requirements should prevent people outside of what i set from installing the app. However, Shopify have replied to me multiple times saying they were able to install the app from outside the geographical requirements.

I have been unable to find any information on this, is there something I am missing, a way to stop people installing my app outside the geographical requirements that I have set?

Hello, did you ever get a workaround for this? Mine is currently the same and coming up empty with any solutions
