I hired yesterday a freelancer to help me fix some performance problems in my shopify website. I reached out to him today asking him for an update. he told me he fixed it. I checked the performance of the website and it was still very low (30) https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-www-standawt-com/5sdlmcmjp6?form_factor=mobile. Then he said, if you want me to fix the whole thing you need to pay me 250$. a minute later and my website landing page is completely dysfunctional. and he ended the contract. please help
I believe he changed the theme and i’m not able to revert it back to where it was and i’m freaking out. Can someone please help me with this?? thank you
I’m really sorry to hear that the issue you’re currently facing. It’s always recommended to back up the theme first and for more extra safety you can download theme files as well. It would be great if you can provide further details about your issue and then I can help you fix it. Also, if you’re interested then I’m always available for assistance, feel free to reach out to me and I would be more than happy to get your website back to working!
hi @webwondersco thank you so much for responding. Basically i was on Kalles and now it’s on Impulse and I’m unable to find kalles. The landing page is completely messed up (if you check www.standawt.com you’ll see for yourself).
I just checked the code files it seems he updated theme.liquid and index.json and i’m unable to revert to previous versions (prior to an hour ago which is when he made the last update before i revoked his access).
Hope this helps. All i’m trying to do is revert back to my previous theme and then fix the performance issue separately since that is no longer my most urgent problem to fix.
Hello @Moeed , Sara here, thank you so much for responding to my post.
Basically i was on Kalles, the freelancer i hired looks like has changed the theme to Impulse and I’m unable to find kalles. The landing page is completely messed up (if you check www.standawt.com you’ll see for yourself).
I just checked the code files it seems he updated theme.liquid and index.json an hour ago and i’m unable to revert to previous versions (prior to an hour ago which is when he made the last update before i revoked his access).

It was working on Kalles since last year! He just changed it to impulse to mess it up. My question is how can i revert it to Kalles? OR is it impossible to do that?
Yes, it is possible. And there are 2 ways which are as per below:
Restore from a backup: If you have installed any backup app in your store then we can take the backup from there. Else the second option is best.
Contact Shopify Support: Reach out to Shopify Support as soon as possible and explain the situation. They may be able to assist you in reverting the changes and help you get your website back to its previous state.
Look for the “Appearance” or “Themes” section, usually located in the sidebar or main menu.
Within the themes section, you should see a list of installed themes. Locate the previous theme you want to revert to and click on the “Activate” or “Switch” button next to it. This will set the previous theme as your active theme once again.
This is an awful situation. Was the freelancer hired via the Experts Marketplace? If so, we don’t tolerate this kind of behaviour. Thus, you should report the individual to our team as soon as possible.
Regarding your theme, once you switch themes the previous theme should transfer down to your theme library. This would be located at the bottom of Online Store > Themes. If your Kalles theme is no longer there, it sounds like this individual deleted the theme file.
If, however, you are able to find the old theme you can select Actions > Set as live theme, to make this theme your live theme again. If there are any code changes you need to revert in this theme you can roll your theme back to before they made the changes. We have a guide that will walk you through this process here.
Unfortunately, if none of the above work, there is nothing else you can do. Once a theme is deleted from your theme library there is no way to recover it.
