How to set Meta ad pixel to only read recent data

Hello,

I get more sales when targeting for traffic than targeting for sales. I think this might be because I had several test orders before from different accounts, and the Meta pixel is including them in its data for who to target for.

Is there a way I can tell the pixel to only use data from after a certain date?

Thank you

Hey, yes there are chances that the pixel is tracking the older test orders. When tracking a sales campaign, pixel might track older events in order to find your ideal customers.

In that case, let’s keep it simple: Create a new pixel. If I were you, I’d create a separate, new pixel that does not take the test orders. I’ll put in parameters that DO NOT consider those test orders or apply a custom conversion that only fires when a specific condition is met [for example, tracking orders after a set date, only tracking purchase events, etc. Use what applies to you].

Also, sort out what different accounts are linked to your Meta ads account. Only choose the one that you will be using for pixel targeting and also connect that to the Events Manager.

Another option would be using a Shopify app that tracks such events within your Shopify Admin. I recommend using AdNabu Facebook Pixel, it removes all the hassle of individually fixing the meta pixel code again and again in the theme file and also lets you easily access events that fired on particular dates, like this:

It very smoothly integrates with your Meta ad account, and you can organize your events more effectively. Another thing is you can easily target these events -

I recommend this because it allows Shopify merchants to have better control and management of their pixels.

Hope this helps you! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi,

That’s a great observation — if your Meta Pixel tracked test purchases, it can indeed affect your optimization data. Unfortunately, there’s no direct way to reset or set a date filter on pixel data. However, here are a couple of options:

  1. Create a new pixel (or Meta Events Manager custom conversion) to start fresh with clean data.

  2. Use a new Custom Conversion based on recent purchase events, and set it to only trigger under conditions you define (like URL or event parameters).

  3. Exclude test purchase events by using filters or custom audiences to refine who Meta targets.

Also, when optimizing for “Sales,” Meta needs solid, high-quality conversion data — so starting with “Traffic” or “Add to Cart” objectives until you build more consistent purchase events is a good strategy.

Let me know if you want help setting up a clean Custom Conversion or Pixel filter!
