We sell both physical and downloadable goods. I know that I need to register for IOSS to sell to the EU . Is it enough to sell both types of merchandise. How do I set this up in my shop?

Well , this one is not complicated 
. I presume that you are not established in the EU . Technically, you need to use two EU VAT special schemes - IOSS for physical sales and Non-Union OSS scheme for digital goods. Shopify has certain restrictions on the use of two schemes simultaneously , but there are workarounds that depend on the actual business environment in your shop.
