I recently started my Shopify decor store but I am having problems setting up the payments section, where customers will place their card details into to make a purchase. My business is registered in Uganda as a sole proprietor but I live and have my bank details in Turkey (TRNC) at the moment. I tried using a third party payment provider but they ask for 6 months of sales transactions of which I have none because people cannot pay for anything on my store as their is no payment provider. I don’t know what to do, and have all the necessary documents. 2 check out said they cannot work with my business type.
Can I ask why you have your business set up in Uganda but then live somewhere else? Is there a specific reason you didn’t set up your business where you live? I’m thinking this might be causing some of the complications for your business and why some of the payment gateways need more details such as 6 months of sales transactions in advance. My advice if it’s possible is to set up the business where you live and will be residing full time. While Shopify Payments isn’t available in either Uganda or Turkey currently, you can see the third-party gateways Shopify is partnered with for both of these countries below:
My business is registered in Uganda. I live I n TRNC but it is not permanent, I will be leaving this country around next year in summer, but will be visiting Uganda, as it is my homeland. The store is purely online and will do dropshipping so I didn’t think location would be a problem, until this last step. I don’t have sales transactions because I opened the store on Shopify to be sourced from oberlo for drop shipping. I tried to use third party payments , and have all the necessary legal documents but somehow, there is always a problem and its frustrating because I’m spending more money subscribing to Shopify than I am even getting in returns. I am from Uganda but just came to Turkey as a student, so didn’t want to register my business here and then just leave in a few months . However my bank account is Turkish and PayPal isn’t accepted here.
My advice is to set up your store from Uganda if that’s where you’ll be returning to live. If you are only in Turkey temporarily, it might be difficult/ not possible at all to recieve payments.
Do you still have an address or a bank account in Uganda? If so, I would recommend going down the route of setting up your store with those details. It’s difficult to discuss this with a lot of details via the Community as the chat is staggered. If you want to speak to someone in real time where they can look into your store admin and have a live chat, please don’t hesitate to contact one of our advisors by logging in here.
