How to set up subdomains for stores in different countries

Hi Shopify Community,

Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere. I have done some extensive researech but couldn’t find an answer that made sense to me.

I have the following situation:

  • I have two identical companies, one in Australia, one in Germany. They are selling the same products. But I set up 2 companies to make it easier from a tax point of view and for shipping purposes.
  • The store for the Australian branch is already set up under “oceanmeetsgreen.com
  • I have purchased a second store for the German branch.
  • But I am stuck setting up the domain for the German branch.
  • As I don’t want to create a new domain, e.g. “oceanmeetsgreen.de” because I think that will confuse customers I might lose potential sales
  • Ideally, I’d like customers to search for “oceanmeetsgreen.com”. And then they get directed / re-directed either to the german shop or the australian shop, depending on their location.

Is this possible?

If so, can someone please give me a simple step-by-step rundown of how to set this up :slightly_smiling_face:

Many Thanks,

Alena

Hi Alena,

You should set up a separate store for each subdomain (for each country).

Hi SmallTask,

Thank you for your reply.

As mentioned above, I have already set up the second store. However, my question is about how to set up the subdomains (where they point to). And what I do with the root domain.

It may be super simple, but I don’t have any background in this field and would appreciate a step-by-step on how to set up the subdomains for both shops.

Thanks,

Alena
