How to set up tax settings for desired outcomes, for Australian GST and UK VAT

We’re based in Australia, and would like to set up our tax settings with the following outcomes:

  • For most international orders, we want to charge the base product price.
(eg. for a product with a price of $10, the customer pays $10, no tax.)
  • For Australian orders, we want to include 10% GST in the base product price.
(eg, for a product with a price of $10, the customer pays $10, including $0.91 tax. The prices throughout the site should be displayed inclusive of tax.)
  • For UK orders, we want to charge 20% VAT on top of the base product price.
(eg, for a product with a price of $10, the customer pays $10 for the item, plus $2 tax. We don’t mind if the prices are displayed inclusive of tax, or if tax is added at checkout.)

We’ve been poking and prodding the tax settings with different combinations, but haven’t yet achieved the above.

We are registered for GST in Australia, and for VAT in the UK.

Thanks all!

Hello, did you get any solution to this?

I’m having the same problem. Having VAT in UK of 20% and 0%, unable to apply them on my products since the products are 20k+ and shopify asks me to make manual collection for this.

Please let me know how did you achieve this?

No good unfortunately. After a few calls and emails with Shopify support, we couldn’t achieve the outcomes given above.

That was back in 2021 though; I should dig in to the new Markets settings and see if it’s possible on the Basic plan.

Unfortunately I had to make the custom collections by myself and took 2.5 weeks to complete the whole process. but that worked!!!
