How to setup business email in shopify
Topic summary
A user is trying to set up a business email for their Shopify store. They’ve successfully configured email forwarding in Shopify (Settings → Domains → Email), allowing them to receive messages sent to their business address (relation@clknbuy.com) in their personal Gmail inbox (clknbuy3@gmail.com).
Current Issue:
The user wants to send emails FROM their business address, not just receive them. Gmail currently only allows sending from the personal address.
Guidance Provided:
- Shopify doesn’t offer native email hosting (no inbox service)
- Email forwarding is free but one-way: you can receive at your custom address, but replies go from your personal email
- To send from a business address, a third-party email hosting service is required (examples: Google Workspace, Zoho, Outlook, GoDaddy, Namecheap)
Status: The question remains open, awaiting confirmation on whether the user will pursue a paid email hosting solution to enable sending capabilities.
Hi @clknbuy
Shopify does not provide native email hosting (the service that gives you an inbox for an address like info@yourstorename.com). Instead, you have a free option for setting up a business email:
Email Forwarding (Shopify-Managed Domains Only)
This is the simplest, free option if you bought your domain through Shopify. It lets you create an email address like sales@yourdomain.com and have all emails sent to it automatically redirected to an existing personal email (like your Gmail or Outlook).
Key Steps:
- Go to Domains: In your Shopify admin, navigate to Settings > Domains.
- Select your Domain: Click on the domain you want to set up the email for.
- Add Forwarding Email: In the Email forwarding section, click Add forwarding email address.
- Enter Addresses:
- In the Store email address field, enter the name you want before the
@(e.g.,info). - In the Receiving email address field, enter your existing personal email (e.g.,
youremail@gmail.com).
- Save: Click Save.
Important Note: You can receive emails at your custom address, but if you reply from your personal inbox, your customer will see your personal email address. To send from your custom address, then you need use a third-party paid domain (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap).
Hi,
I have set up email forwarding in Settings → Domains → Email.
My business email is relation@clknbuy.com, and the receiving email is clknbuy3 @gmail.com.
I am receiving all emails correctly in my Gmail inbox.
However, I also want to send emails FROM my business email (relation@clknbuy.com).
Right now, Gmail only sends emails from my personal Gmail address, and it does not show any option to send from my business email.
Could you please guide me on how I can send emails using my business address?
Do I need a separate email hosting service (such as Zoho, Google Workspace, or Outlook) to enable this?
Thank you!
Yes,
You need a separate service. The feature you are currently using in Shopify, Email Forwarding, is designed only to receive emails at your custom address (relation@clknbuy.com) and redirect them to your existing personal inbox (clknbuy3@gmaill.com).
Shopify does not provide email hosting, which the service that allows you to:
- Have a dedicated mailbox for relation@clknbuy.com
- Send emails from relation@clknbuy.com
To send email from your professional businedd address, you will need to subscribe to a third-part email hosting service, such as the ones you mentioned.
