how to show remaining stock when adding items to cart, but normally not visible

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows..

I do not want the stock count to show by default.

I only want the stock number to be shown when a customer attempts to add more than the stock remaining.

Here is a website that does this, when you try to add say 5 items to the cart, it will show a message that says only 3 are available.

You won’t get this functionality native in the theme, and you’ll need to get this custom coded. We can help you with that, for free. Let us know if you’d like us to implement that in your store, we’ll share a collaborator request.

Hi there, thank you for your reply, I just wanted to clarify as I’m reading this part.. you wrote “for free” but I’m assuming you meant to say “for a fee” correct? I’m asking because if this isn’t a simple line addition to one of the liquid files, normally the answer would be to pay for an app.
