How to solve double currency exchange issue for US customers on a Canadian site?

I have a Canadian site on Shopify for 10 years. When a USA customer tries to buy from us there is a toggle button can$/ USD$. The site shows the actual price of the USD as Canadian using current exchange and then when the customer toggles to USD it reduces it again by the exchange, thus double using exchange twice.

Customers are getting 50% off the product but being billed higher. This only happens when purchasing using an american IP address.

I have phoned shopify twice 4 hours so far and can’t talk to live person only chat. Still not fixed and we just had to disable shipping to the USA. This is big loss to business and we feel defeated.

Any Canadians have this problem too??

I have seen same issue on couple of sites which uses currency switching app, multiple geolocation app or this feature offered from theme

i would recommend not to use any other currency switcher to avoid conflict and use the shopify geolocation app https://apps.shopify.com/geolocation

This should solve the issue. Any users from US will be shown above prompt before entering the site.

Note: you might have to add the country on settings > markets if not already.
