My store is currently the Debut theme, I downloaded the Dawn theme and want to change over to the dawn theme.
Because Debut theme is with liquid files and Dawn theme is Jason files some of the custom product liquid files will not work on the Dawn theme… If I go to my Dawn theme click on products it gives you Default product template. I know how to create a new product template.
However, my problem is when I go to my products they all have the liquid product templates created from my Debut Theme and my new jason template does not show up for me to choose it for a specific product.
What do I need to do? I eventually want to drop my Debut theme once I get Dawn the way I need it to be..
You can only assign templates from the published theme to products, so if your Dawn theme is still unpublished, its product templates will not show up in the Theme template dropdown on the product admin page.
Previously you could work around this by creating “dummy” alternate templates in the live theme so you could preview the corresponding teamplate in an unpublished theme. But now that the unpublished theme uses JSON templates but the published one uses Liquid templates, I don’t see a way to use that workaround anymore.
I currently am using the Debut Theme and the different Page themes that I created were done with liquid files. When I downloaded the new 2.0 Dawn Theme it uses json files.. I was on the Dawn theme which was inactive and created a new product theme. So when I went to apply it to a style it would not show in the dropdown list only my older liquid files. After much consternation as I was looking on my product admin page where the dropdown list is it states… Online Store… so I figured that Dawn needed to be published.. So that’s what I did publish the Dawn theme and when I went to choose my theme template my new template that was created in 2.0 Dawn theme was there for me to choose..
