How to Take Product Photos for Both Mobile and Desktop Display?

Hi everyone,

I’m wondering how to take my product photos so that they look great on both mobile and desktop screens. Should I shoot the photos in a horizontal or vertical orientation?

I’m curious how companies achieve the effect shown in the examples below. Is this related to how the photos are taken during the photoshoot, or is it more about technical adjustments in Shopify?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

For product images, it’s recommended to shoot them in a 1:1 ratio for both desktop and mobile.
On desktop, the screen is usually split into two sections:

  • The left side shows the image
  • The right side displays the product information
    For mobile, the 1:1 ratio works better as it allows the full image to be visible.
