It comes up with an error of file too large. I have downloaded a file from Envato.
Topic summary
A user encountered a “file too large” error when trying to upload a theme downloaded from Envato to Shopify.
Initial troubleshooting attempts:
- The downloaded package contained multiple folders (HTML, PSD, Support files)
- Compressing only the HTML folder (theme code) was suggested to reduce file size
- File remained too large even after compression
Root cause identified:
- The Envato package contained an HTML template, not an actual Shopify theme
- Free Envato templates are not compatible with Shopify
- Only marketplace-purchased themes work with Shopify’s platform
Resolution:
- User discovered the incompatibility issue independently
- Marked as solved after realizing free Envato templates cannot be used
- Alternative suggestion provided: browse official Shopify theme store (themes.shopify.com)
Hi,
I guess the Envato zip includes not only the theme code, but also other files. Please unzip the packge, then only compress the code theme to reduce the installation package
@ExpertRookie Hi, thanks for your reply.
The folder includes:
01 HTML
02 PSD
03 Support
And all have got large amounts of files in. Is there any of these folders that I do not need then in that case?
Hi,
I guess HTML folder contain the code theme. If I’m right, then you only need to compress this folder
The size is still too big. All YouTube videos are mentioning the unZipping part of the uploading but not mention on how to do it to be able to upload such a big file.
hi @LSAccounting ,
If you don’t mind, you can give me the package , then I will review it
Well, there are some thing wrong here. Your package file is HTML template, not Shopify theme. You need to contact to the provider to ask assistance
I found the issue with this file so I have marked this as accepted solution.
The free templates on Envato are not for Shopify. Only the ones on the market place unfortunately.
Thank you for your help.
