How to update an old theme without disrupting business?

Hi

Recently we purchased a business which included a shopify store.

The previous owners never update the theme and so now we have a older version of a theme running in os1 instead of the better OS2.

To update our theme and keep the theme we have do we simply buy the latest theme from Shopify and if so can you have the same theme’s running at the same time. Meaning whilst we are rebuilding the new theme can the older theme still run so we dont loose any business.

Any advice on the best way to do would be greatly appreciated.

It will create a duplicate and draft theme if you update your new version of the theme, so the older theme still runs. But I recommend you duplicate your published theme before updating

You don’t need to publish the new theme. You can customize it and later publish it when you are ready.
