Topic summary

A user in India reports being scammed by a Shopify-hosted store (boast-deals.myshopify.com). After making payment, they received no confirmation email or SMS, and discovered the vendor’s phone number and address were fake or non-functional.

Key Issues Raised:

  • No order confirmation received, preventing use of Shopify’s official complaint form
  • Vendor contact details (phone, address) appear fraudulent
  • User seeks clarity on whether the store is legitimate and what action Shopify can take

Shopify’s Response:

  • Shopify operates as a platform and cannot intervene in day-to-day merchant operations or order fulfillment
  • Recommends contacting the bank/payment provider directly to dispute charges and retrieve funds
  • Cannot confirm whether a specific shop is legitimate or using their platform
  • Suggests waiting 4 weeks, then pursuing resolution through financial institutions

Status: The issue remains unresolved. The user expresses frustration about lack of consumer protection mechanisms and hopes to prevent others from facing similar situations. Shopify maintains its position as a platform provider without direct merchant oversight.

People in India are using the website - https://boast-deals.myshopify.com/policies/contact-information

to buy products, and losing money as they seem be fake. People make payments but receive no confirmation mail/message and th product promised. What does Shopify do against vendors like these? If there is no clear mechanism to protect consumer interest, it is only a matter of time that such matters will end up in the court of law.

Hi @BM3 ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

I definitely understand where you’re coming from and would be happy to share some insight on how we can help.

As Shopify is a platform used by many merchants to sell online, we are unable to manage day-to-day operations or intervene in the order process. If however, you placed an order online, I’d encourage you to check out our Order FAQ Page for more information on how to proceed.

If after 4 weeks you still have not received either of your orders, we recommend contacting your bank for steps on how to proceed. Additionally, if you believe the store you purchased from is using Shopify as a platform, you can fill out our Report An Issue Form for further investigation.

It’s important to note that Shopify is a platform used by many merchants to sell both online and in person, and would not have access to their day-to-day operations or orders. Ultimately it’s recommended that that you contact your bank and/or payment provider directly. This will ensure that the appropriate guidance can be given as well as the next steps on how to retrieve funds to get this resolved.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns.

Hi Blair, thanks for your mail. A few things i would like to mention and
bring to your notice -

  1. I did not receive any email or sms confirming my payment. That prevents
me from reporting the matter on your website -
    https://help.shopify.com/en/questions/buyer-complaint#/customer-support/report-order-issue
    .
  2. When I tried calling up the number of the vendor site, I realised that
the phone number was fake/not working.
  3. When I tried checking the address given on the website on google map, I
    realised that was fake too.

I would really like to see this matter through to the end, not just for my
own peace of mind but also to ensure others do not face the same situation.
I think it is also important for shopify to realise that if this a fake
store, that is not likely to add to your goodwill.

Requesting your help in at least sharing with me if that store is fake or
real? If fake, what action can and should be taken?.If real, nothing needs
to be done.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

Hi @BM3 ,

Thank you for the prompt response.

I can completely understand the impact of this and would be happy to share a bit more information on our role.

In this case, the best thing you can do moving forward is to get in touch with your bank and/or credit card provider. They will be able to provide the appropriate guidance on how to proceed. While I can certainly understand how this may not be ideal, Shopify is a platform used by many merchants to sell both online and in person, and would not have access to their day-to-day operations or orders. Additionally, we wouldn’t be able to confirm whether or not a shop is using Shopify as a platform.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, as I’m happy to assist.
