Please tell me I’m doing something wrong. I expected that my listings would automatically be updated to show buyers the sale price. Instead I’m be told I can do it manually? Calculate what 20% off is for EACH item I have on sale?
Topic summary
A merchant expected sale prices to update automatically across listings but discovered Shopify requires manual price adjustments for each product by default.
The Problem:
- Running a sale doesn’t automatically display discounted prices on product pages
- Manually calculating and updating prices for numerous items is impractical
Recommended Solutions:
- Use bulk editing apps like Bulk Product Edit or Shopify Discounts to apply percentage discounts across multiple products simultaneously
- Bulk Price Edit – Springify (free app) was specifically suggested with a two-step process:
- Set “Compare at price” to the original price (displays strikethrough pricing)
- Decrease the actual price by the desired percentage (e.g., 20%)
These tools automate the discount calculation and price updates, eliminating manual work while properly displaying both original and sale prices to customers.
By default, Shopify doesn’t apply bulk discounts automatically—you need to manually update each product’s sale price or use apps to automate this.
Consider using an app like Bulk Product Edit or Shopify Discounts to apply discounts across multiple listings efficiently.
Hi @Joe_Papendick !
If you want to automatically apply a 20% discount to all your listings (instead of calculating each one by hand), you can use the Bulk Price Edit – Springify app.
It’s absolutely free and lets you update all prices in just a few clicks.
All you need to do (as shown in the attached screenshot) is:
- Set “Compare at price” to your current price (so shoppers can see the original vs. discounted price).
- Decrease the price by 20%.
That’s it! The app handles everything automatically and shows the discounted prices to your buyers—at no cost. Hope this helps!
