I’m facing a sudden and critical issue with my Shopify checkout that started approximately 2 days ago

Hi everyone,

Website : www.wrozbaela.pl

I’m facing a sudden and critical issue with my Shopify checkout that started approximately 2 days ago.

The Problem:

My store sells digital products. Until 2 days ago, the BLIK payment method (the most popular payment method in Poland) was appearing correctly at checkout for my customers. Suddenly, it has disappeared.

What I’ve discovered:

It seems that Shopify is no longer automatically detecting the customer’s location as “Poland” in the billing address field. Because the country is not pre-selected, BLIK (which is region-locked to Poland) doesn’t show up. If the customer manually selects “Poland” in the billing address, the BLIK option reappears.

The issue with Shopify Support:

I contacted Shopify Support, and they claimed this is “expected behavior” because I sell digital products, so the system doesn’t force a country selection. However, this is clearly incorrect because it was working perfectly fine until 2 days ago without any changes on my end.

My question to the community:

Has anyone else experienced a sudden change in how Shopify handles billing country detection for digital products in the last 48 hours?

Is there a way to restore the previous behavior or force the “Poland” country to be selected by default without changing my product settings?

I am attaching screenshots of my current checkout and payment settings. This issue is causing massive cart abandonment, and I need a fix urgently. Any advice or workarounds would be a

lifesaver.

Anyone :frowning: ??? I need help

Yeah, Shopify support is technically right about the current behavior, they probably just rolled out a checkout update to your store. Digital carts skip the shipping step, which delays localized payment triggers (like BLIK) until the billing address is manually filled.

The easiest hack for this: temporarily mark your products as “physical” but assign them to a free shipping profile (e.g., “Digital Delivery - Free”). This forces the shipping step, which usually auto-populates the country based on the user’s IP or your primary Market. BLIK will show up right away.

It adds a tiny bit of friction asking for shipping info, but it’s way better than losing sales because BLIK is hidden. Fwiw, also double-check your Shopify Markets settings to ensure Poland is set as the primary market.

Thanks we’ll that sucks, I will try to change it to physical item if there is no different solutions

If you have a Stripe account, most of them support BLIK and P24.
