I am located in Turkey. I would like to add an additional information field in my checkout so
that I can get my customers ID number before they can complete their purchase. I need that info for shipping and invoice.
By ID number, what do you mean?
Do you mean phone number? If you want to get customers calling numbers, then you need to enable “Shipping address phone number” in shopify checkout settings.
follow the given steps:
Go to shopify settings> checkout > scroll down and there you’ll find option “Shipping address phone number” mark that as “Required”. and save the changes. Now your customers need to enter their phone number before checking out.

You can add a text box on the product page to collect customer ID (National identification number) .
You can use this app https://apps.shopify.com/product-options-pro to add a text box on the product page.
