Hello everyone, I'm using the Nitro theme on my Shopify website. It's one of the free themes. I installed the drag-and-drop app Ecomposer, which is compatible with the Nitro theme. I created a footer for myself. Of course, while I was creating that footer, there was an option to overwrite Shopify's files, so I chose it because it seemed better. When I published it to the website, it was reflected, but it was reflected incorrectly, so I went and deleted the Ecomposer app. When I went to the theme editor, there was no footer section, and I don't know how to get it back. There's no footer on the website now.

Don’t worry, this happens quite often when apps like EComposer overwrite core theme files — especially the footer.liquid section or footer-group.json template references.

When you deleted the app, it likely removed or disconnected those footer references from your theme’s structure file (/config/settings_data.json or /templates/index.json), so Shopify can no longer find the footer section to render.

Here’s what you can do:

  1. Check your theme files – Go to Online Store → Code Editor, and under /sections/, see if there’s a file named footer.liquid.

  2. If it’s missing, you’ll need to restore the original footer section — either by:

    • Duplicating your theme and re-adding the default footer.liquid from the Nitro theme package, or

    • Creating a new file in /sections/ called footer.liquid and pasting the default code back in.

  3. If the file is still there but not appearing in your editor, it’s likely just not being called in your theme layout. You can re-link it inside theme.liquid (just before </footer> or </body>), or via the footer-group.json reference.

You have many other options of themes in shopify

Just install a new copy of the theme.
Or check if the app/service made a duplicate before making a destructive change.
HINT: good apps and services do this type of stuff,.

Then make periodic backups before making substantial changes.

When you deleted Ecomposer, it likely removed or overwrote your original footer section file in the Nitro theme. Don’t worry — you can bring it back easily.

:puzzle_piece: Steps to Restore the Footer:

  1. Go to Online Store → Themes → Edit code

  2. In the Sections folder, look for a file named footer.liquid

    • If it’s missing, click Add a new section → Name it footer

  3. Paste this default code into it (from Shopify’s free Nitro or Dawn theme):

    • You can copy a clean footer.liquid file from a fresh Nitro theme by:

      • Going to Online Store → Add theme → Explore free themes → Add Nitro,

      • Then open its code and copy the footer.liquid contents.

  4. Save the file.

  5. Now go back to your Theme Editor, and you should see the footer section again.

If it still doesn’t appear, open theme.liquid, scroll to the bottom, and make sure this line exists before </body>:

{% section 'footer' %}

That will re-link the footer section to your theme.
