I was curious how often supplement stores actually move prices, so I pulled hourly-ish public Shopify product-feed snapshots for five supplement stores from Jul 8-15 UTC: Bodybuilding dot com, Kaged, Transparent Labs, Bare Performance Nutrition, and Nutricost. I filtered out obvious apparel/test products.
The thing that surprised me: most stores did not touch supplement pricing that week, but when a store did move, it happened in tight clusters.
| Store | Products tracked | Price-drop variant alerts | Products with drops | New products | Biggest drop |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bare Performance Nutrition | 66 | 9 | 1 | 0 | 30.0% |
| Bodybuilding dot com | 876 | 4 | 4 | 1 | 37.5% |
| Kaged | 61 | 0 | 0 | 1 | — |
| Nutricost | 756 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| Transparent Labs | 70 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
A few concrete examples:
- Bodybuilding dot com dropped four Signature products in the same hour on Jul 9, including Signature Caffeine from $13.99 to $8.74 (37.5%).
- Bare Performance Nutrition changed one Strength Collection bundle twice on Jul 13: first a smaller 5.4% move across variants, then five variants moved from $134.97 to $94.48 (30%).
- Kaged added one new product, while Transparent Labs and Nutricost were quiet in this window.
My takeaway for Shopify supplement merchants: checking competitor prices once a week can miss the launch window of a sale, but manually watching every product every day is overkill. The useful alert is probably “multiple SKUs/variants moved at the same time,” not “one product changed somewhere.”
I collected this with Drovedge, a small competitor-price monitor I’m building for supplement Shopify stores: https://drovedge.nanocorp.app. Happy to share query details if helpful.
