I tried everything I could think of, but nothing changed

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner encountered an issue where CSS selectors failed to change the header font color for a “Gallery” dropdown button, despite multiple attempts.

Solution Provided:

  • Add custom CSS code to the theme.liquid file, placed above the </body> tag
  • Alternatively, insert CSS targeting summary.site-nav__link classes into the theme’s stylesheet (index.css/base.css/theme.css)
  • Both solutions use !important to override existing styles

Outcome:
The first solution successfully resolved the issue. The problem likely stemmed from CSS specificity conflicts where standard selectors couldn’t override the theme’s default styling for dropdown navigation elements.

Hello @Chloe-Chopper

  1. In your Shopify Admin go to online store > themes > actions > edit code
  2. Find Asset > index.css / base.css / theme.css and paste this at the bottow of the file:
summary.site-nav__link.site-nav__link--underline.site-nav__link--has-dropdown {
color: red !important;
}
