I use Cpanel for my email. When I transferred to Shopify, all email stopped being delivered. Help!

Topic summary

A user migrated their store to Shopify on October 2, 2022, and immediately stopped receiving emails to their cPanel-based email address (Lon@theoncedeadartist.com). After transferring DNS settings to Shopify, they’ve received zero emails since—including test messages sent to themselves—with no delivery failure notifications from any server.

Key Questions:

  • Where are the emails going if not to cPanel?
  • Is there a way to reconnect cPanel email or does Shopify offer email services?

Suggested Solution:
One respondent indicated the DNS update likely changed the MX (mail exchange) records, which control email routing. The recommendation is to reconnect email to cPanel by updating the MX records according to cPanel’s specifications.

Status: The issue remains unresolved; the user needs to verify and correct their MX records to restore email delivery.

First - THANKS to everyone who reads these questions and tries to help. I have a disability but I really try to figure these things out before I post here.

Here’s the issue I have currently: Prior to deciding on Shopify for our store, I was using Cpanel to get my email (Lon@theoncedeadartist.com). I transferred the DNS (as I think I was shown to do on a video for Shopify) settings to Shopify on October 2, 2022. I have gotten ZERO emails since that time on Cpanel - including those I’ve sent to myself. BUT I’m also NOT getting any response from any server saying that the emails aren’t deliverable.

2 Questions:

  1. Where are the emails going if not to my Cpanel?

  2. Is there a way to connect my Cpanel to Shopify or does Shopify offer email services?

Thanks!

During the dns updated, your mx record might have also got updated.
You can connect it back to your cpanel by updating the mx record according to your cpanel.
