please help me i can’t change my store currency because i have made some sales but now i want to change it, please help me to change my store currency as soon as possible
Hi @widesales-123 ,
Once you make your first sale, you cannot change your store’s currency. This is because changing your store’s currency can affect your financial reporting and may cause discrepancies in your sales and order data.
Whenever that’s the case, you will need to contact our support team for assistance with changing it, as doing so has significant impacts that affect your store.
Before I advise how to contact our support team for this matter, please feel free to go over the impacts outlined below to ensure you’re aware of the affected areas in your store and to help you determine if the benefits of changing your store currency outweigh these impacts.
Currency change impacts
- Reporting: The reporting on the Analytics page doesn’t factor in the difference between currencies. If you had $500 USD processed, that would show as $500 USD in reports. Let’s say the next day you switch to CAD, the report would still read as $500 USD for previous processing. Since $1 CAD is not equal to $1 USD, the reports in theory will be wrong going forward.
- You may set a date range for the data you are reviewing as a workaround, to exclude any transactions that might have been processed in a different currency before the specific date of the currency change.- Product Pricing: Since the dollar amount between currencies is not the same, a product price’s value, could mean something different if the currency is adjusted and impact your margins. Refunds processed after a currency change will also be affected by the currency change. They will be processed in the new currency.
- The product price will need to be manually adjusted and edited to reflect the price in the new currency.- Apps: Some apps may have limitations when it comes to changing store currency.
- If you need to know how changing store currency will affect your apps, I recommend reaching out to the app’s support team to clarify before changing your store currency.- Gift Cards: Gift cards with remaining balances in the old store currency will not work once the store currency of the store has been changed.
- You can remedy this by issuing a new gift card with the remaining balance.- Shipping: Like the product prices, a store’s shipping rates will remain regardless of the currency and will not update automatically.
- After a currency change, you must manually edit the shipping rates to be appropriate to the new currency.- Currency rules: If you currently offer a currency as an option with manual exchange rates and rounding rules set up, those settings will be locked if you change it into your shop currency.
- Before doing so, you’ll need to revert that currency to automatic FX rates and no rounding rules.
The currency change will mainly impact these areas, however, it may also affect areas outside of what’s discussed if you have currency information elsewhere. You may want to review the other pages in your store to ensure they’re updated to reflect the new currency.
If you would like to proceed with updating your store currency, I invite you to reach out to our Contact Us page.
