Hi I would like to change the wording here in the footer to say something else. How could I do that? My theme is Grid and my site link is https://virtual-skin-care.myshopify.com/. Here is what I’m referring to
Hey, @blakelower !
This is Summer from the Social Care team at Shopify. Thanks for your question. It’s great that you’re looking to customize the wording on your website! This is an effective strategy to tailor and elevate the customer experience in your store.
You have the ability to customize the wording or the language on your website through the language editor. You can head to this area by following the steps below.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Click Actions beside the theme you want to edit and select Edit languages.
- You can browse through the tabs to find the section you’re looking for, or type the section in the filter box.
- Edit the wording by replacing the text in the appropriate text box, or add a space in the text box to remove the text.
I had a look at the Grid theme through a test store, and it looks like only the NEWSLETTER text can be customized. If there are other areas you want to edit but can’t, you can reach out to the theme’s support team for further assistance since Grid is a third-party theme. You can find their support details with the following steps.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Click Customize beside the theme.
- In the theme editor, click the ellipsis or the three dots on the header.
- Select Get support from the dropdown menu.
Alternatively, you may hire a Shopify Expert to customize the text in your third-party theme. If you’re using a Shopify theme, you may inquire about theme customizations by contacting our support team through this page.
By the way, your website looks really great! While I was looking at it, I noticed some things that you may want to look into. First, I saw you don’t have a favicon. If you’re not familiar with this, the favicon is the little logo that appears beside your store name on the browser tab. Having a favicon is really beneficial for your brand as it helps users recognize and identify your website easily, and it also presents a cohesive brand identity. I highly suggest adding one if you haven’t thought of it. Should you need a guide to do so, we have one on this page.
In addition to the favicon, the banner about Michelle caught my eye, specifically in the mobile version of your website. When you look at it through a desktop, it looks amazing. The image is of really good quality and the banner itself is a brilliant way to convey the credibility of your business. When you look at the banner through mobile, however, you’ll see that majority of Michelle’s picture is cropped out and the text overlaps with her picture, which is making parts of the text almost invisible. You can see this in the screenshot below.
I recommend editing the banner to not only suit the desktop version of your website, but the mobile version as well. Website traffic mostly comes from mobile devices nowadays, so it’s crucial to optimize your store for mobile. The best point of contact for this would also be the theme’s support team or a Shopify Expert. The banner may be rectified through the theme editor or through coding – the support team will advise what the best course of action would be.
I hope this helps! If you have any other questions about your store, do feel free to respond to this post.
Hi Summer,
Thanks for the help, it worked! My one question I have is would it be possible to edit only mobile options? It seems that when I make a change to mobile it transfers over to desktop.
Glad to know the guide I shared worked, @blakelower !
Only some themes have the ability to only edit a specific version of the website. I checked and it looks like the Grid theme doesn’t have this ability. Since this is the case, we need to look at the possibility of customizing the theme through code to edit the mobile version alone. Again, the theme’s support team or a Shopify Expert will confirm if this is possible and help carry out the customization.
Besides editing the image, you can actually create an About Us page and move the content there. It’s a great idea to put Michelle’s bio on the homepage, however, some visitors like to instantly browse the menu and jump to the page they want to see as soon as they land on the website. If you have an About Us page, customers will easily find the information about your brand. And most importantly, you will have more flexibility in rearranging the text and image as you have more control of the content on a page than a section on the homepage. If you need a guide in creating an About Us page, you can refer to this blog post.
