I am facing an issue with Shopify search.
When users search for “headlights”, irrelevant products like helmets and mirrors are also showing in results.
Even though my collections and tags are correct, product descriptions containing words like “head” and “headlights” are affecting search results.

I want to understand if there is a way to prevent description keywords from affecting search or improve search relevance so only relevant products appear.

Please guide me on the best solution (Search & Discovery settings or any advanced configuration).
Thank you.

Hello there @leelahanuman, can you help us to provide the store url so that we can check that and provide you the code to fix the issue.

Yes, by default, search also checks product descriptions (or “body”).

If that’s the reason for false positives, there are ways to instruct search to only use product title by editing theme code.

Say, predictive search should not search “body” by default.
Fo example here – How can i use predictive search using SKU and UPC/Barcode in theme? - #3 by tim_1 – I’ve shared a solution how also search for SKU.

Same way one can amend results for the search page by using parameters as documented in https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/storefront-search/search-behavior#searching-specific-fields
